After a long wait, 106 years to be exact, Alfa Romeo finally decided to succumb to the hype and make an SUV. Of course this won’t just be an ordinary crossover. It will be a 505 hp, 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds, max speed of 177mph, lapping Ring under 8 minutes monster!
Yes, you read all of the above correctly, Alfa Romeo decided to basically build a lifted and fattened version of its rear-wheel drive Giulia Quadrifoglio, though this one will only come in all-wheel drive.
Power will be sent 100% to the rear axle in most circumstances, but will switch up to 50% of the power to front should it detect unwanted slip.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio Engines
Same as the saloon version, the Stelvio will be powered by a Ferrari derived 2.9-litre V6 twin turbo engine putting down a hefty 503 bhp. If you have seen the Giulia on track then you know how insane it really is. If not, go check it out right now!
Stelvio Quadrofoglio version is of course the cherry on the cake, but the new SUV model will also feature more mainstream engines. Alfa has confirmed they will use their 2.0-litre turbocharged 276bhp petrol engine, but we have no doubt we will also see diesel engines in the line-up.
Dimensions, specifications and tech
Alfa Romeo Stelvio will feature torque-vectoring tech, three different driving modes including a Race setting and will be equipped with carbon ceramic brakes, ensuring this beast will stop with as much ferocity as when is accelerates.
Thanks to utilization of modern, supercar grade, materials such as carbon fiber, magnesium and aluminum, the Stelvio will also have pa perfect 50-50 weight distribution.
As for the dimensions? It’s going to be pretty wide to say the least, spanning over 2 meters. For reference, the Aventador measures 2.03m across. With a length of 4.6m it is also on par with Porsche Macan.
Of course Italians will always market their cars with amazing commercials and Stelvio is no exception as you can see in the video below.
