Ayrton Senna insane onboard qualifying lap in 1989 Monaco Grand Prix

Watch this insane onboard camera footage of the incredible Ayrton Senna’s 2nd qualifying lap at the Monaco Grand Prix on 6th May 1989.

The 1989 Monaco Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Monaco on 7th May 1989. It was the third race of the 1989 Formula One season.

At the start of the race, Senna got away brilliantly from a pole position and his team mate Alain Prost could do nothing but slot into second place on the tight circuit, where pole position counts more than at any other circuit.

Senna continued to dominate the race while Prost, having been slowed by the Piquet-de Cesaris incident and could not recover and finished second behind his team mate.

It was Senna’s second win at Monaco and he did it the hard way. His McLaren lost first and second gear later in the race and Senna was pushing it to the limits, so Prost wouldn’t react and overtake for the lead.
