Ayrton Senna was and still is regarded as one of the best, if not the greatest driver of the modern age of Formula One. 22 years ago, on May 1st 1994 during the San Marino Grand Prix, the unthinkable happened and 34 years old Ayrton Senna would never race again.
Three-time Formula One World Champion died, as a result of his car crashing into a concrete barrier at high speed, while he was leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Italy.
It was a black ending to a horror weekend, Senna’s death following a lucky escape for Rubens Barichello horrific crash and also the death of a novice driver Roland Ratzenberger during qualifying lap crash at 300km/h.
As for the death of my racing idol, Ayrton Senna, his yellow helmet will be missed for a long, long time to come..
